Fred rubbed her temples as she muttered, then stared at her cup of tea as if it held the answers as to why her morning had turned out to be so strange. She must have become rather engrossed in her one-sided staring match because the knock on the bathroom door started her out of her reverie.
"Is everything alright in there? People were starting to think you had fallen in." That accent left little doubt about who was at the door. While she had several male... 'guests' in the house at that moment, Fred at least had the luxury of being able to tell the colorful group apart easily, even if she only had a voice to go by.
"Yes, I am well. I am merely... having a personal moment."
There was a long pause before Gene answered and when he did his voice was thick with amusement. "Well then. Sorry to interrupt, I didn't realize. I'll just come back when you're not so busy."
Had Fred heard that response when she first arrived in the Sphere, she wouldn't have given it a second thought. However, enough time conversing with Bell and enough time picking up on the inflections in Gene's voice made it apparent that some sort of implication was being made. She rose from the seat she had taken and threw the door open, casting a look that was half incredulity and half suspicion Gene's way.
"Just what are you implying?"
Gene's smile took on a falsely 'innocent' aspect that looked nearly as out of place as the harem pants that he and every other man in the house had been forced into.
"Who me? I'm not implying a thing. Just leaving you to your 'personal moment'."
Fred crossed her arms and pursed her lips primly as she looked at him. "I am sure. Honestly, you are as incorrigible as Bell sometimes."
"Only sometimes?" he quipped as he turned to lean against the bathroom's door frame. "I'll have to work on that."
"I suppose no amount of discouragement would dissuade you from that?" She tried to keep her expression bland, though the slightest hints of amusement crept into her voice in spite of herself.
"Not in the least," he said as the play at innocence fell in the wake of his usual grin. "Now, if you're not as busy as I thought, do you mind if I come in and grab a towel or two? Genius locked himself in the closet and says he won't come out until this harem thing is over. I thought it may be easier for him to cover up with a towel since that doesn't count as actual clothing."
"A loophole in the Sphere's machinations? It would be nice if it worked." Fred stepped away from the door to let Gene into the bathroom, then moved toward the cabinet where the linens were kept. "I cannot say I blame Genius for reacting so. This entire situation is ludicrous."
